The Warren and Spector/Warren Fellowship for Future Teachers Public Lecture with Alexandra Zapruder:  “Salvaged Pages – Young Writers Diaries of the Holocaust”

Alexandra Zapruder, editor of National Jewish Book Award-winning "Salvaged Pages: Young Writers' Diaries of the Holocaust," will speak about her stirring collection of diaries by young people during the Holocaust. The diaries reflect a vast and diverse range of experiences - some of the writers were refugees, others were hiding or passing as non-Jews, some were imprisoned in ghettos. The diarists ranged in age from 12 to 22; some survived the Holocaust but most perished. Taken together, their accounts of daily events and their often unexpected thoughts, ideas and feelings serve to deepen and complicate understanding of life during the Holocaust. Zapruder was the guest curator for Holocaust Museum Houston’s permanent diaries gallery – “And Still I Write: Young Diarists on War and Genocide”.
